The clear liquid diet phase is the first of five stages bariatric patients progress through after surgery. Your plan may differ slightly than the one I had, which is on what I based my posts. Always follow your doctor’s instructions and advice first. Your clear liquid diet begins immediately after surgery and lasts for a few days. Your stomach is still healing, so bland liquids are necessary to stay hydrated. You’ll want to take small, slow sips as your body recovers. During the clear liquid diet after surgery, it’s essential to keep hydrated with non-caloric, sugar-free beverages.

Purpose of a Clear Liquid Diet
The purpose of a clear liquid diet following bariatric surgery is to allow your stomach to heal and keep you hydrated. Hydration is so important following bariatric surgery, and your job the first few days is to rest and remain hydrated. You’ll want to aim for six to eight cups of clear liquids per day. The clear liquids you consume should be liquid at room temperature. You want clear liquids here, nothing too fancy. Your body needs to learn to digest again with a smaller stomach.
