Welcome to the liquid diet section of Stop Weighting, Start Doing! In this section, you’ll find tips and techniques for surviving the liquid diets with tips, tricks and examples of what to eat. We’ll cover the liver-reducing diet (LRD) prior to surgery, which can honestly be one of the hardest parts of surgery. You’ll also find information about the clear-liquid diet and the full-liquid diet. Bariatric patients progress through these phases after surgery. Their new stomachs are healing and need to learn how to digest again.
Liquid Diet
The liquid diet phases of bariatric surgery can be difficult, but it’s not impossible! In fact, you aren’t the only one who has to do these phases and thousands of people have survived them. You will too. It’s important to remember that your stomach needs to be prepped for surgery. Your liver also needs to shrink, so the surgeon can operate better within your abdominal cavity. The liver tends to be enlarged in obese people, covering part of the stomach. The liver reducing diet shrinks it to allow room for your surgeon to operate. After surgery, you won’t feel like eating much anyway, but you still need to consume a few things to promote healing and get back on your feet.
