Welcome to the food substitutions section of Stop Weighting, Start Doing! In this section, you’ll find information on substituting your favorite foods with bariatric-friendly options. You’ll find how I substituted foods to take care of my cravings before and after surgery. Substitutions also saved my calorie-budget during my pre-op days when I was trying to lose weight for surgery. You’ll find why we have to eat foods lower in fat, sugar and carbohydrates. It helps us get the most use out of our tools.
I try and test a lot of different substitutions out there. It allows me to report to you the best ones I find. I don’t want to recommend something I wouldn’t eat myself, so I make sure things are tasty and fit into a bariatric lifestyle. Food can be real, healthy and delicious. It’s important to remember that we should consume everything in moderation, with an emphasis on protein in our post-bariatric surgery diets. Protein is king after all, and there is no substitution for that! Bariatric patients enjoy food as much as the next person, just in a slightly different way.
